Sarah Marsh’s debut novel A Sign of Her Own is a story that follows a former student of Alexander Graham Bell. It is a compelling historical novel about trust, betrayal and cost of ambition that powerfully mines the experience of being deaf in a hearing world.
Some of the chapter headings needed to translated into British Sign Language.
Solution
Working with the publisher and author, I was also able to refer to my own experience with sign-language to develop BSL translations for the chapter headings.
I also created some illustrations for social media marketing.
Impact
The book was longlisted for the Walter Scott Prize for Historical Fiction – an unforgettable novel of a deaf woman’s quest to tell her story, and find her place in the world.
