Challenge
Bee Detective by Tin Bath Productions is a live stage performance in which children help Sophie Bee discover why the worker bees have started disappearing.

Staged in a tent, this multisensory performance had to be accessible to deaf audiences through captioning and sign language, while remaining exciting and immersive visually for everyone.

Solution
Working closely with writer and performer Sophie Woolley, and director Gemma Fairlie, we developed an overall visual style which then informed hundreds of illustrations and animations. In collaboration with the projection artist and sound designer, these were projected onto the stage set while live performers interacted with them.

We also created marketing materials, including posters, leaflets, social media graphics, a teaser animation, and a website.

Impact
The play toured four festivals during the summer of 2012; in Brighton, Cardiff, Northumberland, and London’s South Bank

“Great fun for deaf and for hearing children — and I learned a lot about bees!” — Julia Donaldson, Gruffalo author and Children’s Laureate
